Meet Dr. Jonathan Fishbein

Dr. Jonathan Fishbein is a dedicated optometrist who has a passion for providing exceptional eye care to his patients. He hails from Toronto, Canada, and graduated from York Mills High School University of Toronto. His journey in the field of optometry has been marked by a commitment to excellence and a deep love for helping his patients achieve optimal vision and eye health. He is a 30+ year member of AOA (American Optometric Association), and currently sits on the Third Party and Legislative Committees at NJ Society of Optometric Physicians. In the past, he has served on the NJSOP Board of Directors, and was Chairman of Third Party Committee. His awards include Chairperson of the Year in 2012 and Paul Berman Distinguished Service Award in 2017.

Dr. Fishbein’s Experience

Dr. Fishbein has dedicated over thirty years to the optometry field, contributing extensive knowledge and expertise to Somerset Eye Care. His academic journey began with a year at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, followed by a Psychology undergraduate degree from the University of Toronto. He then pursued his Doctor of Optometry degree at the New England College of Optometry, graduating alongside Dr. Bethany Fishbein in 1997. Further honing his skills, Dr. Fishbein completed a residency in low vision rehabilitation at the Feinbloom Center in Philadelphia through the Pennsylvania College of Optometry.

Dr. Fishbein, alongside his wife, Dr. Bethany Fishbein, celebrates over twenty years at Somerset Eye Care, a milestone marking their commitment and the trust of their long-standing patients. His passion for optometry shines through his versatile practice, from prescribing a child’s first glasses to managing glaucoma in seniors and enhancing the independence of visually impaired patients through optical solutions.

Away from work, Dr. Fishbein has a rich personal life filled with athletic endeavors and family activities. An enthusiastic runner, he has participated in numerous marathons, supporting the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society through Team in Training, and maintains a running streak, currently surpassing 500 consecutive days. A devoted hockey fan and player, he competes in a local adult league, always cheering on his beloved Toronto Maple Leafs. Dr. Fishbein cherishes the time spent with his family, whether it’s watching his daughter dance, his son play hockey, or enjoying his guilty pleasure of trashy reality TV and action-packed thrillers.
